Meeting Minutes
Redding Monthly Meeting of The Religious Society of Friends
Date: August 10, 2008

Present: Doris, Tom, Doug, Lenore, Ed
Review & Approval of Minutes: We reviewed and approved the minutes
Treasurer's Report: $2384 balance, with rent and some scheduled donations due
Ministry & Oversight: no report
Peace & Social Order: A possible topic for the October Dinner Among Friends is Proposition 8 (concerning gay marriage) and/or Doris has a video about gay/lesbian issues.
Interfaith Report: no report (next meeting is Sept. 10)
Unity with Nature: Ed will share information at the August 17 cabin outing
Other Business:
1. Address and phone list is now updated. We'll keep it on our Google documents server. Lenore will email a copy to the list.
2. Organizing our cabinet reading materials and other items. This task is overdue! Doris and Tom and/or Susie will work on this.
3. Subscriptions to Western Friend are available at a reduced group rate if you place an order through our meeting. Contact Doris if you'd like to purchase a subscription. The meeting has a subscription if you'd like to see a sample copy.
4. Review of mail received: Thank you letters for donations for Quaker Youth Pilgrimage and Right Sharing
Report from Pacific Yearly Meeting:
1) Doug brought back some books to donate to our library.
2) Eric Moon (AFSC) would like to visit Redding to present a program on the prison system and prison reform. Our preliminary plans for this event will be for the Redding Friends to sponsor the event, with co-sponsorship and donations from other groups. We could include this event in the Season of Nonviolence calendar (February or March)--entries are due by October 30. Doug will make initial contact with Eric and forward information to Doris.

Coming Events:
1. Chico Friends will have an open house Sunday 9/28 9:30-3:00. Some of our members may attend this open house and/or we could go down as a group on a Sunday when we are not scheduled to meet in Redding.

3. Fall Quaterly Meeting (October 17-19) visit http://collegepark.quaker.org/
4. Andrea Asebedo Retirement on August 16 6:30 p.m.

Sunday, September 14 Meeting for Worship 11:00 a.m. at Methodist Church (food & children = Tom & Susie) 9:45 a.m. Meeting for Business (*NEW: earlier time for business meeting).
Friday, September 5 Dinner Among Friends plus Fun Folk dancing. 5:30 potluck dinner at Morehouse home. 7:00 introduction to international folk dance at Redding Ballet Academie 1726 Market Street (Across from Cascade Theatre) hosted by Lenore/Redding Folk Dancers.
Wednesday, September 17 5:30 p.m. Mid-week Meeting for Worship at the Bonds' home.
Sunday, November 2 Host breakfast at Methodist Church. Save the date to help with preparation, serving, and clean-up. This event is an important fund-raiser for our meeting and allows us to make many charitable donations).
